Sue Blackley

October 5, 1937 - October 4, 2008

Mary Sue (Summers) Blackley, 70, died at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City Saturday, October 4, 2008. Sue Blackley was born October 5, 1937 in Martin, TN. She was the daughter of the late F.R. Sam Summers and Golden Clarice Summers of Martin. She married Billy Wilson Blackley of Obion, December 2, 1953 and joins him now. They were only parted by his death in 2007. She earned Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin. She taught first grade for 30 years beginning in Obion and retiring from Hillcrest Elementary in 2006. She was a long time member of the Obion Church of Christ. She was a member of DAR and Delta Kappa Gamma. She had traveled extensively including all 50 states ad 20 foreign countries. Survivors include two sons, James Stephen Blackley and Daryl Wilson Blackley both of Obion. Her step-mother in law Mary (Eaton) Blackley also of Obion, four grandchildren: Daphne York of Martin, Stephanie Garrett of Dyersburg, Rebekah Carman of Union City, and Michael Hall of Jacksonville, NC, four great grandchildren and one sister Martha Maynard of Lansing, MI. Visitation will be held at Cryer Funeral Home in Obion from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Monday night. Services will be at the Obion Church of Christ Tuesday at 1:00 PM with Bro. Rick Knoll officiating and Tim Fox leading singing. The family requests that memorials be made to the West Tennessee Children’s Home, 170 Frank Lathem Rd. Pinson, TN 38366, St. Jude Hospital, or to a charity of your choice. The pallbearers will be Tommy Morris, Vincent Thompson, Wes Walton, Tony Bullion, J.C. Coleman, and Jim West. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sammy Snead and Glen Parnell.
