Mrs. Rhea Mears Cheatham

Mrs. Rhea Mears Cheatham, age 95, of the Elbridge Community, was born November 10, 1919 in Fulton, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Samuel and Eunie Walker Mears. She died Saturday, December 13, 2014 at her residence. She was a retired assistant Post Master at the former Elbridge post office. She married the late J. B. Cheatham, Sr. on May 19, 1946. He preceded her in death June 1, 1985. She and her late husband farmed their land in Elbridge for 75 years. Mrs. Cheatham was active in the VFW in Dyersburg for many years. “Miss Rhea”, as she was known in the community, enjoyed sewing, refinishing furniture, traveling and decorating her home. She leaves three sons and their spouses whom she adored; Jerry and Ann Cheatham of Union City, Bernie and Teresa Ervin Cheatham of Obion and Tommy Cheatham of Obion. Grandmother Rhea leaves seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son Terry Lee Cheatham on April 10, 1990, three brothers and one sister. Friends may call at Cryer Funeral Home on Monday, December 15 from 6 until 8 PM. Graveside services will be at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 16 at the Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Cheatham, Jay Cheatham, Jim Cheatham, D. J. Peery, Greg Ervin and Terry Lee Cheatham, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Simrell, Larry Albright, David Cunningham, Melvin Hollingsworth and Dan Armstrong. Rev. Paul Sternisha will officiate.
