Mr. J. R. Hale Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Johnny Roy “J.R.” Hale left this world peacefully on March 26th 2021 at his home in Cloverdale where he lived his whole life. He was 90 years young and the owner of J.R. Hale & Sons Trucking. He did such a great job at his work on earth that he was called on by the Big Boss for a job only someone as special as. J.R. could do. Apparently, there are some streets of gold that need paving, and J.R. is the man for the job. He will have a brand new truck that never breaks down and has the smoothest riding seats anyone ever felt. This new job includes perks such as seeing loved ones he hasn’t seen in a long time, an infinite amount of his beautiful wife’s strawberry cake, and the most amazing weather every day. In J.R.’s new job, he has been given the task of watching over his loved ones; being that we are all a bunch of “Hale-ions”, he will have his work cut out for him, so he will not be returning from this new position, unfortunately. His late wife of 58 years, Bobbie Ellen Hale, was called on by our Lord and Savior 12 years prior, so she will be her husband’s mentor as he navigates through this new journey. J.R. Hale loved his big crazy family more than words can say. He was a hard-working farmer, a loving man to all who knew him, and a protector to all who needed him. He was a legend. Other than his family and friends, J.R. loved good live music, his dump trucks, anything his dump trucks could haul, the giant rooster statue he put in his front yard because in his words “I wanted a giant rooster in my yard because I’d be the only one with one”, peach cobbler, anything his wife cooked, riding around his farm on his golf cart, and reading the newspaper every day. J.R and his late wife Bobbie had 5 children; Gary Hale, Barbara Thornton, Glen Hale, the late Dennis Hale, and Scottie Hale. He has more grandchildren than he could count, even more great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild named Tanner aka “10 Spot”. Anyone who was lucky enough to have known J.R. will miss his larger than life, though stoic, personality, his infectious smile, and his wise piercing blue eyes. He would tell those of us left behind to not to make a big ado over his passing, but a life as full as J.R.’s deserves to be celebrated by all the other lives he has touched. Join us in celebration of J.R.’s life at Cryer Funeral Home in Obion, TN. Visitation will be Monday, March 29th from 6pm-9pm followed by the funeral on Tuesday, March 30th at 11am. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Elbridge Cloverdale Community Center, % Judy Rainey, 4155 Frog Level Rd., Obion, TN 38240 or Zion Cemetery, 4851 Jim Carver Rd., Obion, TN 38240.
